Auricular Acupressure Therapy is a specialized form of acupressure that involves applying pressure to specific points on the ear, known as auricular points or ear acupoints. This therapy is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and is used to treat a wide range of physical and emotional conditions by stimulating these points to restore balance and promote healing in the body.
Pressure Application:
- The therapist applies pressure to specific acupressure points on the ear using their fingers, thumbs, or specialized tools. The pressure can be gentle or firm, depending on the individual’s sensitivity and the condition being treated.
Seeds or Beads:
- In some cases, small seeds (commonly from the Vaccaria plant) or tiny metal or plastic beads are applied to the ear using adhesive tape. These seeds act as a constant point of pressure, and the patient can press them gently at home to continue treatment between sessions.
Auricular Needles:
- In addition to acupressure, some practitioners use small, fine needles inserted into the ear at specific acupoints. These needles may remain in place for a short period to stimulate the points more effectively. However, this is technically auricular acupuncture rather than acupressure.
